09 2004 - Taking a Yeoman

Today was a grand day!  Two years ago my Lady Yngvildr and I attended our first SCA event.  As it happens, it was the Tournament of Squires in 2002.  Today, on September 11th, 2004, we returned to this event with much greater expectations.

The day dawned bright and cool, with a promise of a warm and mildly humid day to come.  Our (not so small) group arrived at a little after 11am, and consisted of my Lady Yngvildr, our four youngest children, our friend Morgaine, and her two teenage daughters Isabel and Elsbet.

His Grace Duke Sir Dag and Lady Anne Marie deGarmeaulx had already arrived and set up their day camp, so we set up our pavilion next to theirs.  After spending some time getting camp settled, Tomas and I conferred with His Grace, and discovered to our great sorrow that Tomas' membership had expired in June!Bodvarr Authorizing

All hail modern technology!  Hadiddiya, a most lovely and gracious member of Iron Oak offered the use of her internet-enabled cell phone so that Tomas could go to the SCA.org web site and register online.  The marshals agreed that viewing the confirmation on the cell phone would be sufficient to allow him to participate this day.

Bodvarr authorized first, with Malachi and Baron Angus marshalling.

(There is more to write on this day, much much more, yet I fear it will not be written; such do the sands of time quickly steal from our minds those memories we hold dear.  If such deeds are to be remembered, they must be cast in immortal script soon after, lest time destroy the clarity of the event. -Bodvarr)
